Knitting the future

I, Moon, want to tell you about the day I witnessed an extraordinary encounter.

It happened during a night when, while sleeping, a young woman met her other self, a version that came from the future to reveal a truth about her creations.

“I’ve searched for you through time,” said the woman from the future, who was sitting in a chair in her same room; her hands caressing the wool of a newly knitted coat. “I needed to tell you that your decisions today will be more than just fashion.” Her eyes shone with the wisdom that only time tends to grant.

The woman from the present watched attentively while her other self showed her images of a future where fashion had devastated the planet.

“But your garments,” continued the visitor, “the soil of your farm, your sheep, your decision to respect natural cycles… all of that inspired change.”

In the shadows of a mill, the two contemplated a coat. “This garment,” explained the woman from the future, “is not just a coat. It’s a lesson about how to create without destroying, how to design without hurting the earth.”

“So our work…?” the woman from the present began to ask. “Yes,” her other self responded, “every garment you create becomes an example. Each collection demonstrates that true beauty is born from respect for the planet. In my time, many people have learned this lesson.”

While the sheep grazed under my silver light, the woman from the future shared stories of how each decision —the hand-woven wool, natural dyes, limited production— had helped transform the industry. “You don’t know it yet,” she whispered, “but you’re weaving something bigger than just clothes: you’re weaving hope.”

Before disappearing with the first rays of sun, the visitor left a final message: “Continue creating with consciousness. Each garment born from your hands is a promise kept with the earth.”

Upon waking, the woman from the present found the coat on a table in her room, though she didn’t remember finishing it. In its folds, she discovered a note written in her own handwriting, but older: “The future is woven with the threads of the present.”

And I, witness to the cycles of time, continue illuminating her work each night, knowing that in her hands fashion becomes a bridge between the present and a future where beauty and sustainability are the same thing.

Process

For our Collaboration 42, we have once again invited Wright + Doyle, the independent British fashion brand that fascinates us with designs that put people, time, and our planet first.

From their farm in the English countryside, Izabella Doyle and Matthew Wright have built a brand that breathes in rhythm with nature. Their philosophy transcends the simple creation of clothing: each garment tells the story of a complete cycle, from sheep raising to artisanal crafting.

This commitment to the land materializes in their Fall-Winter 2024 collection through a collaboration with Daniel Harris, an English master weaver.

In a restored old mill in Wales, Harris has developed exclusive fabrics that honor British textile traditions. English wool and indigo cotton twill emerge from this process as testimonies to manufacturing that respects nature’s timing.

“Each piece must have a purpose,” reflects Izabella. “Before creating something new, I ask myself: Do we need it? Will it last? Will it become a beloved element of the wardrobe?”

This philosophy is embodied in pieces like the Baptiste Jacket and Lozere Trousers, made with hand-woven wool in Wales; or the Tirage Coat, which combines wool and cashmere in a carefully studied proportion to maximize durability.

The collection embraces the idea that true sustainability lies in longevity. Every technical detail —the adjustable collars, the double-opening pockets— emerges from deep reflection on garment use. The brand avoids mass production, hence each piece receives the meticulous attention that an object made to last deserves.

At Loona, we are proud to present these garments that challenge the accelerated pace of contemporary fashion. Wright + Doyle has created a collection that celebrates patience: that of the weaver developing a perfect fabric, the tailor mastering every stitch, and nature producing the noblest fibers.

Through this Collaboration, we reaffirm our commitment to fashion that looks to the future while honoring the past. Pieces like those we present on this occasion convey a clear message: true innovation in current fashion lies in rediscovering our connection to the Earth and creating pieces worthy of being inherited by future generations.
