An offering to the Moon
I, Moon, want to tell you a love story about the Earth. It’s a tale that wasn’t told to me by stars or comets, but by curious internet users who left a deep mark on me when they visited.
They came to me through their dreams, not long ago. It wasn’t the first time; we had shared moments on other occasions.
This time, however, they brought some garments they had recently made for me. The fabrics, woven with linen and wool, shone under my light, displaying their softness. They offered them to me as a gift and told me that over time and with use, these garments would only become more beautiful and comfortable.
As we observed the Earth from my surface, they shared their vision. They spoke to me about the problems the planet faces. They told me about their wish for people to love their garments for a longer time, and how important it was to reduce the excessive consumption that harms our planet.
As we chatted, I could feel that their inspiration came from an authentic place, and I believed them completely. We were like that for a while, and before leaving, they left all their gifts with me. Touching them, I could feel their essence, and the deep love for the planet they spoke so much about.
Upon returning to Earth, they left a promise in me: to continue working to change the narrative of fashion, inspiring others to do the same.
I, from my orbit, will continue to watch and support every step they take in their mission. Because their work is not just fashion, it’s a message of awareness and change. And I, Moon, am here to witness and be an accomplice in that beautiful journey.
Process
For the fifth time, we are pleased to present a Collaboration with Sono, the independent and sustainable British fashion brand created by Stephanie Oberg and Simon Homes. On this occasion, we have made a selection of garments from their Autumn-Winter 2023 collection.
Inviting them again is no coincidence. Every project in which we have collaborated with Sono has made us feel more attracted to their vision of sustainability and design. In the 21st century, fashion, beyond being a reflection of identity and society, has become a call to responsibility and awareness. In this sense, brands like Sono are essential.
A few weeks ago, we were emailing with Stephanie and Simon about their wishes for the brand, which reflect their deep understanding of the relationship between fashion, consumption, and sustainability: “We want people to start loving clothes for longer, to gain confidence in the way they look and to lose the constant need to consume more. This basic insecurity is fueling the ecological decline of our planet.”
Their creative process, as they describe it, is a “balance between experienced minimalist design and an intuitive and passionate decision-making process, within an ethical and ecological boundary.”
It’s not just about creating clothes, but doing so with deep respect for the planet and its inhabitants. For them, design is not just aesthetics; it is a comprehensive process, as they state: “We have a responsible and holistic design process that cannot forget any element, from the cultivation of raw materials, the origin of each element, to the people who sew each garment.”
Inspired as much by the cultural diversity of cities as by the serenity of nature, Sono finds balance. “If you live in a metropolitan city surrounded by different cultures, it’s exciting. Nature centers you, the horizontal axis of the open natural landscape refreshes and calms the mind. We need both.”
Regarding fashion as escapism, Sono believes that, although many people seek this escape from reality, there is a truth that, sadly, is undeniable: “Fashion and clothing manufacturing are one of the most damaging industries in ecological terms.”
However, they are determined to change this narrative, as they tell when they talk about their mission: “Make a difference and inspire others to try something similar.”
About the pieces from the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection of our Collaboration 29, they state: “There are cozy and wide silhouettes with fabrics that have been woven for us combining linen and wool that look rustic but feel soft. Most importantly, they develop more character and soften the more you wear them.” A proposal that reflects their commitment to our planet and durability.
On returning to Loona for this season, they express: “We are very honored to continue being part of this project and we love the new evolutionary approach to selling clothes.”
Without a doubt, this is a collaboration that promises not only to bring fashion but also awareness and change.
