Someone once taught me that just as the stars dance, I dance too /
That just as flowers and trees grow, I grow too /
I keep changing as the sky changes /
When you close your eyes, do you see lights of colors?
They are the stars that live in you /
What is Earth? Your mother’s body when you lie down on her /
What is fire? The beating of your heart /
What is air? Breathe… blow… sing /
What is water? Everything you feel /
Space is you, where everything happens /
The Moon is the only time that exists /
The Moon is a mirror of fire /
The Moon is what is forgotten
Because she loves us so much
That she lets us forget her so we can live.

Process
How do we turn the page within Loona? That’s one of the ideas from which our Collaboration 56 emerged.
The answer came through Luna y Yo (Moon and Me), a book written by Naian González Norvind, created in collaboration with NGOimpacto. A project conceived and accompanied by Loona as a work whose pages bring together textile crafts and the written word, where imagination opens dialogue with the Earth for its readers.
The book is a work of art in itself. It’s made entirely by hand using backstrap loom technique and embroidery by the Flor de Vida group from the community of Bochilte in the municipality of Huixtán, and Malalena from the municipality of Aldama Cabecera, in Chiapas. Each page carries the hands of women who keep ancestral techniques alive, passed down from generation to generation.
Naian González Norvind, an actress and writer for film, television, and theater, created the text from a profound question: how do we help children name, listen to, and care for the Earth? Her answer came in the form of a poem: “Someone once taught me that just as the stars dance, I dance / That just as flowers and trees grow, I grow.”
The text continues with questions that open worlds: What is the Earth? Your mother’s body when you lie down on her. What is fire? The beating of your heart. What is air? Breathe… blow… sing. What is water? Everything you feel. And it closes with a truth that runs through us all: “The Moon is what we forget because she loves us so much that she lets us forget her so we can live.”
NGOimpacto accompanied this project through its commitment to strengthening indigenous peoples through collaborative, ethical, and long-term processes. Their work focuses on valuing artisanal knowledge, women’s autonomy, and intergenerational cultural transmission. They recognize collective authorship, promote fair relationships, and contribute to the living preservation of cultural heritage from within the communities themselves.
Luna y Yo invites children to understand that they’re part of something greater, that the Earth isn’t something separate from them but the body they inhabit. It teaches them that when they close their eyes and see colored lights, those are the stars living within them. That space is themselves, where everything happens.
The book and a photographic exhibition of the process will be on display for one month at Centro Cultural Casa Chiapas, beginning and ending with the new moon. During this period, some schools will visit the space to learn about the process and read Luna y Yo. The book will also be read in different schools, bringing the word, imagination, artisanal work, and connection with the Earth to educational spaces.
This is how we work at Loona from the conviction that creativity and imagination are acts of care, cultural transmission, and collective transformation. Luna y Yo represents exactly that: the meeting of word, craft, and Earth that becomes a seed from childhood.
